In this relaxed and exciting workshop we will learn how to create nature inspired pages in our sketchbooks using a variety of media, marks, colours and textures. You’ll discover how to create story boxes and sketchbook spreads to capture small drawings that build up into a seasonally inspired visual journal of artwork. I’ll be sharing lots of tips and techniques, including how to loosen up, and how to simplify objects and complex scenes.

What you’ll need: Bring a sketchbook and your favourite materials (see below for a sketchbook recommendation if you don’t have one).

  • Suitable for all abilities - if you’ve never used a sketchbook before, this is a perfect opportunity to start a brilliant new hobby! Practising artists will enjoy discovering new ways to work in their sketchbooks.

  • Tuition, demonstrations and one to one guidance throughout the afternoon.

  • Delicious refreshments to enjoy with unlimited tea and coffee.

  • Weather permitting, we will be able to draw outside together in the beautiful walled garden.

  • A selection of my materials will be provided for you to try out on the day.

FAQ’s & Workshop Information

1: Payment and Refunds.

Payment is required in full when booking to secure your ticket and is non-refundable.

2: What should I bring?

You can bring your favourite sketchbook and materials to use at the workshop. You’ll be invited to use the selection of materials I’ll be bringing on the day too.

If you haven’t got a sketchbook, I can recommend the Royal Talens Art Creation one which you can buy here, as an affordable and excellent option for mixed media art.

Suggested materials you could bring: Pencil crayons, gouache or watercolour paint, watercolour crayons, brush pens, wax pastels, water brushes.

3. About the venue.

The Bradbury Makers Shed is situated next to the beautiful walled garden in Hillsborough Park, Sheffield.

There is an accessible toilet.

There’s plenty of room to work in the Makers Shed which is a light and airy space, with access to the walled garden which dates back to 1779. If the weather is fine and dry (fingers crossed!) we will head outside and make use of this beautiful space for our drawings. If it’s raining we will work indoors using inspiring reference materials.

4. Workshop Schedule

The workshop begins at 2pm, and you’re invited to arrive from 1:50pm to get settled in.

After a short introduction we will make the most of our time together and begin exploring story boxes and sketchbook spreads in our sketchbooks. I’ll be on hand to give demonstrations and to answer questions throughout the afternoon.

Tea, coffee and a delicious treat will be provided, please let me know if you have any special dietary requirements when booking.

The workshop finishes at 4pm.

5. Parking and Getting There

There are two car parks at Hillsborough Park which are pay and display. One is accessed from Hawksley Avenue off Middlewood Road (S6 2BG), and the other one is accessed from Parkside Road (S6 2AB).
